Description

Photo 4: Close-up view of a freshly blasted quarry rock from the vicinity of Photo 3 showing layered granofels of the Vassalboro Group, undifferentiated (SOvu). Granofels is a metamorphic rock in which the minerals lack obvious alignment. The darker colored layers in this rock are biotite granofels, whereas the greenish gray layers are calc-silicate granofels. The layering can be more difficult to see on a fresh surface like this, than on a naturally weathered surface. Pejepscot Quarry, Quarry Road, Topsham.
