Description

Photo 11: Light-colored igneous rock (granite pegmatite) cutting across darker-colored east-dipping gneissic rocks of the Nehumkeag Pond Formation (Onp). The granite dike formed when hot fluid magma flowed up through cracks in the gneiss deep underground and then solidified in place. The locations of these dikes are shown on the map with blue symbols. Shoreline exposure approximately 1500 feet southwest of Bowman Island, Freeport.
