Description
Photo 14: An injection vein of pseudotachylyte cutting across fine-grained calc-silicate granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). Pseudotachylyte, which literally means “false glass,” is a somewhat rare, dark gray, glassy to flinty textured rock that represents quenched frictional melt generated during past earthquakes when rapid movement along a fault literally melts the surrounding rock. Note the small-scale flow folds within the pseudotachylyte vein. Harbor Island, Friendship.
