Description

Photo 13: Close-up view of the coticule member of the Cape Elizabeth Formation (Ocect). The light pink coticule layers are rich in very fine grained garnet and small amounts of black magnetite. Rocks in this unit also contain interlayered mica schist and granofels which in this photo can be seen as the darker colored layers. The coticule layers are interpreted to represent metamorphosed sediments rich in manganese and iron. East side of Sagadahoc Bay, Georgetown.
