Description

Photo 6: View of an outcrop surface of folded impure marble in the marble, amphibolite, and rusty-weathering schist member of the Casco Bay Group (Ocbm). The photo illustrates the differential weathering of layers within the rock that contain different minerals. The raised areas of the rock are rich in more resistant silicate minerals (like quartz, feldspar, and diopside), while the recessed layers are dominated by more easily weathered calcite. East side Tottman Cove, south of North Creek, Phippsburg.
