Description

Photo 2: A close-up view of pegmatite (CDp) showing the minerals alkali feldspar (Afs), quartz (Qz), tourmaline (Tur), and muscovite (Ms). Pegmatite is a very coarse grained variety of granite and is ubiquitous in the quadrangle, occurring primarily as meter- to sub-meter-wide tabular dikes and sills in surrounding metamorphic rocks. Pegmatites have been the subject of mineral resource investigations (Cameron and others, 1954) and were the target of small-scale feldspar mining in the past as evidenced by numerous small, abandoned prospect pits scattered throughout the quadrangle (Rand and others, 1957). Off Quarry Road, Georgetown.
