Description

Photo 6: Close-up view of strongly foliated rocks of the Lincoln Syenite (DSlsf). These highly distinctive rocks originally crystallized from an alkali-rich magma of intermediate silica concentration about 418 million years ago and were subsequently strongly deformed and partially recrystallized during the Middle to Late Devonian Acadian orogeny. The rocks are characterized by large purplish-gray alkali feldspar crystals set in a finer grained matrix rich in biotite, actinolite (an amphibole group mineral), and lighter colored feldspar.
