Description

Photo 4: Although approximately 95% of bedrock exposures on Squirrel Island are composed of granitic rocks (Photo 3), there are isolated areas that contain inclusions (xenoliths) of older rocks. This photo shows a portion of a dark-colored xenolith of foliated Lincoln Syenite (DSlsf) surrounded by lighter colored granite. The alignment of minerals (foliation) in this xenolith strikes in an east-west direction and dips moderately to the south. Field book for scale. Southern coast of Squirrel Island, Southport.
