Description

Photo 3: View toward the east illustrating the abundance of light gray biotite granite on Squirrel Island (Dsi). Outcrops of granite in the quadrangle are light gray in color, have smooth flat to rounded profiles, and are unlayered. These rocks, crystallized from silica-rich magma deep beneath Earth’s surface, are composed primarily of light-colored quartz and feldspar, and lesser amounts of dark-colored mica (biotite). Southern coast of Squirrel Island, Southport.
