Description

Photo 14: View of an outcrop surface of Cross River Formation (O0cr) illustrating some of the distinguishing characteristics of the unit. The majority of the rock is a rusty-weathering, medium-grained, migmatitic gneiss containing larger light-colored feldspars suspended in a finer grained and darker colored matrix rich in biotite and sillimanite (known informally as “popcorn texture”). Exposures of the unit commonly contain blocks of non-rusty-weathering, light gray biotite granofels, two of which can be seen in this photo. Fish Point, Bristol.
