Description

Photo 12: View towards the south of a vertical outcrop surface illustrating a small-scale example of recumbent folding (sub-horizontal axial surface) in layered granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). Examples of folds with this geometry (f1) are rare in the quadrangle and are interpreted to reflect the earliest phase of deformation. A second, more commonly observed generation of folds (f2) have upright axial surfaces (Photo 13) and deform the recumbent folds. Card Cove, Boothbay.
