Photo 12: View towards the south of a vertical outcrop surface illustrating a small-scale example of recumbent folding (sub-horizontal axial surface) in layered granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). Examples of folds with this geometry (f₁) are rare in the quadrangle and are interpreted to reflect the earliest phase of deformation. A second, more commonly observed generation of folds (f₂) have upright axial surfaces (Photo 13) and deform the recumbent folds. Card Cove, Boothbay.
