Description
Photo 11: Another strike-parallel view of a more heavily intruded and gneissic variety of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). The white sausage-like layers (boudins) represent crystallized sills of granite magma that have been pulled apart during ductile deformation. Also note the abundant thin discontinuous light-colored granite segregations throughout the dark-colored metamorphic rocks. This alternation of light and dark layers within the rock is referred to as gneissic structure. Pemaquid Point, Bristol.
