Description

Photo 11: View of an outcrop surface of Cross River Formation (O0cr) illustrating some of the distinguishing characteristics of the unit. The majority of the rock is a rusty-weathering, medium-grained, migmatitic gneiss containing large cream-colored feldspars suspended in a finer grained foliated matrix rich in biotite and sillimanite (a.k.a. “popcorn texture”). Exposures of the unit often contain tabular blocks of non-rusty-weathering, light gray biotite granofels. Near Photo 2 location, Bristol Consolidated School, Bristol.
