Description

Photo 10: Close-up view of rusty-weathering, well-foliated, gneisses of the Cross River Formation (O0cr). Foliation refers to the parallel alignment of mineral grains, and in this photo that alignment of dark colored mica (biotite) and lighter colored feldspar is near vertically oriented. Note the different appearance of the rock depending on the freshness of the exposed surface. The lower part of this exposure is recently broken and thus not as intensely weathered. Northern end of the Eastern Branch of Johns River, South Bristol.
