The Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC) within the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (ACF) is a nine-member, independent board that serves as the planning and zoning authority for the state's townships, plantations and unorganized areas. The Commission has ultimate responsibility for rules, adjudications, policies and other administrative decisions and holds regular monthly meetings to consider pending business. Each member of the Commission must have lived or worked in the unorganized areas of Maine, be familiar with the needs and issues affecting the jurisdiction, or have expertise in commerce and industry, fisheries and wildlife, forestry or conservation issues as they relate to the Commission's jurisdiction.
