Description

Photo 3: Close up view of biotite granofels with an equigranular “salt and pepper” texture. Granofels is a metamorphic rock in which the minerals lack obvious alignment. Irregular masses of reddish-pink garnet enclose abundant small mineral grains, a distinctive feature of the Cumberland Foreside Formation (SOcf). Freshly blasted surface in a construction zone approximately 500 feet east of I-295 near the southern boundary of the quadrangle, Cumberland.
