Description

Photo 2: The Cape Elizabeth Formation (Oce) is a complex unit of varying characteristics within the Brooks East quadrangle. In many outcrops thin white-weathering granofels layers alternate with thin schist layers. The layering may have originated as bedding, but may be highly deformed. In this image a complex fold structure is confined within a single quartz + plagioclase ± biotite layer less than 6 centimeters thick. The image is perpendicular to the compositional layering and a dome and basin pattern is displayed. Intersection of Route 139 and Stream Road, Monroe.
