Photo 4: Garnet-sillimanite-biotite gneiss, one of several rock types within the Sangerville Formation (Ss). The white layers in the rock are rich in quartz and feldspar, whereas the darker layers are rich in biotite, light gray sillimanite (a high temperature metamorphic index mineral), and abundant reddish-brown garnet.
