Description

Photo 9: View towards the south of a vertical outcrop surface illustrating a small-scale example of recumbent folding in layered granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). A recumbent fold has a sub-horizontal axial surface. Examples of folds with this geometry (f1) are rare in the quadrangle and are interpreted to reflect the earliest phase of deformation. A second, more commonly observed generation of folds (f2) have upright, steeply dipping axial surfaces (Photo 8) and deform the recumbent folds. Killick Stone Island, Muscongus Bay, Bristol.
