Photo 9: View towards the north of a vertical outcrop surface illustrating an example of recumbent folding (sub-horizontal axial surface) in layered granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). Cross-cutting, light gray granite is present in the upper left portion of the photo. Examples of folds with this recumbent geometry (f₁) are rare in the area and are interpreted to reflect the earliest phase of deformation. A second, more commonly observed generation of folds (f₂) have upright axial surfaces (Photo 10) and deform the recumbent folds. South of New Harbor, Bristol.
