Description

Photo 9: View towards the north of a vertical outcrop surface illustrating an example of recumbent folding (sub-horizontal axial surface) in layered granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). Cross-cutting, light gray granite is present in the upper left portion of the photo. Examples of folds with this recumbent geometry (f1) are rare in the area and are interpreted to reflect the earliest phase of deformation. A second, more commonly observed generation of folds (f2) have upright axial surfaces (Photo 10) and deform the recumbent folds. South of New Harbor, Bristol.
