Description

Photo 8: A close-up view of interlayered biotite (darker colored) and calc-silicate granofels of the Bucksport Formation (Sb). The white sausage-like layers below the hammer (boudins) represent crystallized sills of granite magma that have been stretched apart during ductile deformation. Also note the abundant thin discontinuous light-colored granite segregations throughout the dark-colored metamorphic rocks. This alternation of light and dark layers within the rock is referred to as gneissic structure. South of Pumpkin Cove, Bristol.
