Photo 10: Photo of a migmatitic variety of Cape Elizabeth Formation (Oce). The darker colored layers are biotite-rich mica schist (metamorphic rock), and the lighter colored layers are granite (igneous rock). The term migmatite refers to a composite rock that contains both residual metamorphic rocks and igneous rocks that may have formed during episodes of partial melting of the surrounding metamorphic rocks.
