Description

Photo 9: Steeply dipping layers of quartz- and feldspar-rich granofels and subordinate mica schist of the Cape Elizabeth Formation (Oce). The relative amounts of light-colored granofels versus darker colored schists in the Cape Elizabeth Formation vary significantly in the quadrangle. At this location, lighter colored granofels dominate, whereas at other locations darker colored schists dominate. The rocks in this unit represent metamorphosed fine-grained sand, silt, and clay that was originally deposited in horizontal layers on the ocean floor in Ordovician time. East side of Sebasco Harbor, Phippsburg.
