Description
Photo 3: Shoreline exposures of biotite granite (Dbg) that are cut by two thin tabular dikes of lighter colored granite. Outcrops of granite in the quadrangle are typically light gray in color, have smooth flat to rounded profiles, and are characteristically unlayered. These rocks, crystallized from silica-rich magma deep beneath Earth’s surface, are composed primarily of light-colored quartz and feldspar, and lesser amounts of dark colored mica (biotite). Damariscove Island, Boothbay.
