Description

Photo 5: Exposure of the Edgecomb Gneiss (DSlse) which is characterized by the interlayering of dark gray, coarse-grained, hornblende-biotite-feldspar gneiss with thinner layers of light gray quartz-feldspar gneiss. The darker colored layers are interpreted to have originally been igneous rocks of intermediate composition that intruded about 415 million years ago. These rocks were subsequently deformed and metamorphosed during the Acadian orogeny. Boothbay Harbor Country Club golf course, Boothbay.
