1960c MEC #710 at Bangor Station - Auth Unkn 001
Description
Here is a MEC passenger locomotive looking west peaking out of the passenger shed at Bangor. An E7A built by EMD in July 1948 like a lot of early passenger diesels it was retired in October 1960 at the end of passenger service and scrapped in March of 1965. The station to the left and train shed were torn down shortly there after. Today a strip mall occupies the space where the station and shed stood. The trackage under the shed where the locomotive is, is now a service and parking area behind the mall. All that remains are remnants of the steel pillars to the right of the locomotive. These were cut off at ground level but c2010 they were plainly visible. Pan Am's track to Calais Junction, the Bucksport Branch and the main line to Mattawamkeag are still in place but the passenger car yard to the right of this scene is gone. /DL
