    Description

Maine Central bought 4 of these large 2-6-6-2s from the Boston and Maine in 1911 for use on the Mountain Division. On the MEC they were known as Class X with numbers 1201-1204 corresponding to B&M numbers 3000-3003 respectively and bearing Alco builders numbers 48648 thru 48651. MEC 1202 shown here at Fayban in New Hampshire. The post card photo only indicates the year, 1914, and the location. Note the large number of telegraph wire pairs on the two pole lines in the back ground. MEC leased the of right of way to the likes of Western Union and other wire services to run telegraph lines beside MEC's own circuits. /DL
