Description

Penelope Martin: An Ornament of Grace was compiled in 1990 by Elizabeth Sweetser Baxter for the Cumberland Historical Society. Sisters Eliza, Catherine, and Penelope Martin ran the Misses Martins’ School for Young Ladies in Cumberland until 1804, when the family relocated to Portland. The book contains the letters of Penelope Martin; a list of young ladies who attended the Misses Martins' School in Portland from the years 1804 to 1829; the genealogy of the Martin and Payson families; and a note on the Martin Family portraits.
