Description
Cemeteries of Cumberland, Maine: Second Edition, December 2021 lists the burials in the Town of Cumberland’s six municipal cemeteries as of December 2021, and includes name of decedent, birth and death date if recorded, and grave location. The list of occupants is the work of the Cumberland Cemetery Association, formed in 1933, which in 2014 instituted a new computer system to manage burial data and the sale of cemetery lots. The Association manages six cemeteries: Congregational Cemetery, Farris Cemetery, Foreside Community Cemetery, Methodist Cemetery, Moss Side Cemetery, and Universalist Cemetery. The volume contains plans of the six cemeteries created in 2016; plans of Congregational Cemetery, Farris Cemetery, Methodist Cemetery, Moss Side Cemetery, and Universalist Cemetery created by engineers Sumner S. Lowe and Harlan H. Sweetser between 1934 and 1937; and a Work Projects Administration plan of Congregational Cemetery created as part of its survey and registration of war veterans’ graves. The volume may contain discrepancies between actual burials and the digital records due to past record keeping.
