View of the Lily Pond near Aldermere Farm in Rockport. The Pond was known for the purity of its ice and was a major industry in the area from about 1850 to the 1920s. At one time, as much as 50,000 tons of ice was cut here worth $4 per ton. It was stored packed in sawdust in the large ice sheds along Rockport harbor and could be shipped as far away as the Caribbean.
