Description
In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson orders that the United States coastline be mapped. The comprehensive project takes decades to complete. The U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1879 publishes the Atlantic Coast pilot log for Maine, a sailing guide complete with 24 charts and 31 engraved recognition views.
