Description
Photo 7: View towards the south of west-dipping interlayered biotite and calc-silicate granofels in the Bucksport Formation (Sb). The distinctive ribbed appearance of these rocks is due to the differential weathering of the minerals in the respective layers. These rocks represent metamorphosed fine-grained sediment of variable composition that was originally deposited in horizontal layers on the ocean floor during the Silurian. Folding during Devonian crustal shortening rotated these rock layers into their present-day steeply dipping orientation. Browns Head Cove, Bristol.
