Description

Black ultramafic rock, peridotite of Bastin (1908, Journal of Geology), reported by him as containing mainly olivine with magnetite inclusions, and small amounts of hornblende and plagioclase. The sulfide is primarily pyrrhotite, with pyrite and chalcopyrite visible in this specimen. Collected by Woodrow B. Thompson, MGS, 1985, at the Harriman Prospect locality described in "A collector's guide to Maine mineral localities" (Thompson et al., 1988, MGS B-41). Specimen in MGS collection.
