Description

MAP CAPTION- Photo 4: Interbedded schist and quartzite of the Penobscot Formation (OC#p). Beds 5-10 cm thick of fine-grained biotite schist with coarse-grained andalusite pseudomorphs are sharply interlayered with thin beds 0.5 to 3 cm thick of rusty-weathering white quartzite. This is an unusual fresh exposure in the surf zone; where weathered the rock has a thick rusty coating. Photo is looking down on a horizontal surface. 0.5 miles northeast of the mouth of Spring Brook.
