Description

This presentation provides an overview of MaineDOT’s proposed rehabilitation of the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, Bridge #5312, carrying Route 1A/9 over the Penobscot River between Bangor and Brewer. The presentation summarizes the project history, location, existing roadway and bridge conditions, draft purpose and need, proposed scope of work, maintenance-of-traffic alternatives, schedule, and budget. The bridge, built in 1954, is identified as needing preservation work to extend its service life in a cost-effective manner. Proposed work includes replacement of the wearing surface and bridge membrane, concrete deck and substructure repairs, joint repairs and replacements, protective coatings, and related barrier and retaining wall repairs. The presentation also outlines possible traffic-management options during construction, including staged construction with one-way traffic or full bridge closure, and invites public comment on local traffic impacts and other considerations.
