Description
This spreadsheet contains edited breeding bird evidence data from Maine's first breeding bird atlas, conducted from 1978 through 1983. The first atlas documented the status and distribution of breeding bird species throughout Maine using 7.5-minute topographic quadrangles as survey units.
Each row represents an Atlas 1 survey quadrangle. Bird species are represented in columns identified by four-letter American Ornithologists' Union (AOU) codes, with breeding-status values indicating 1 = possible breeding, 2 = probable breeding, and 3 = confirmed breeding. The spreadsheet also includes a total field for each survey unit.
The data were edited following comparison of the published maps from the first Maine Bird Atlas with archived digital atlas data in order to correct identified discrepancies. This spreadsheet represents the edited tabular dataset and complements the corresponding Maine Bird Atlas 1 Breeding Bird Evidence Summary shapefile available in the Maine Bird Atlas Data Visualization Shapefiles collection.
