1940c MEC #247 at Warerville Schen 1897 - scrap 9-46 - M.B. Cooke 002
Description
Number 247 started life on the Portland and Rumford Falls RR as it's #11. This line was leased to MEC in April of 1907 at which time P&RF's #11 became MEC's #247. This ALCO 2-6-0 was built in January of 1897 and carried builders number 4521. It was rebuilt by MEC in September of 1914 and eventually scrapped in September of 1946. Looking at this photo the stack is covered so I expect this scene is late in #247's life perhaps just prior to scrapping. The back of this print has no date just 247 and Waterville along with M.B. Cooke Jersey City NJ so this was either taken by Mr. Cooke or was part of his collection once upon a time. /DL
