1959 10 MEC #707 at Bangor Station - full scan 002
Description
This easterly scene from on old print is really quite striking. Less than a year from the end of passenger service the MEC is still shining in all it's glory as it began it's long multi-decade down hill slide. The passenger car yard to the right is all over grown now and of course the station, & train shed will meet their demise in just a year or so. The bridge is single tracked today (ca.2021) and PAN AM maintains the steel in a less than pristine state. MEC's Number 707 purchased in 6/46 was an EMD 2000hp E7. It was sold to Kansas City Southern in 10/63 to become KCS #11. I wonder when the swing bridge was last turned?? No apparent gaps in the rail in this scene so that functionality was long out of service in October of 1959... /DL
