1928c MEC #152 Xing the WW&F at Wiscasset 003

Description

Every once and a while an exceptional photo comes along. This scene of MECs 4-4-0 #152 about to cross over the 2 Foot WW&F at Wiscasset is one of those photos. The Maine Central consist of a baggage car and 3 coaches in this mid day scene is typical of eastbound passenger service in the 20s on the Rockland Branch. Notable elements in the scene are the narrow gauge track in the foreground, the ball signal behind the locomotive and the MEC freight station in the distance behind the train. In these days the WW&F and MEC had a common passenger platform which is also visible. The big question is how many passengers might have been waiting on the platform for this east bound... A tip of the hat to H.W.Pontin for taking the photo via the R.J.Bolan collection. /DL
