Description

This old photo comes with: 'Complements of Ernest F. Stillings Pullman Conductor, Bangor Maine' via a rubber stamp on the back of the old yellowed and brittle print. Also hand written: "Portland Works, 1871, cyl 16x24, taken at Vanceboro, June 18 - 1888. Was old #9 on the European and North America" The E&NA was the name of the RR company that built from Bangor to Vanceboro. It was built to broad gauge, 5'6" was opened to Vanceboro in Sept 1871. Changed to standard gauge in 1878 and leased to the MEC in 1882. R&LHS RR History #152. /DL
