Description
A Maine Central Engineer of Maintenance of Way apparently kept a lot of his correspondence and a good deal of it onto eBay in the early 2000s and were still being brought to auction as late as 2021. In scope these letters from the Vice President give an interesting window on issues in looking after the RR property. Of particular interest is the first document in this set to Theo L Dunn Chief Engineer, BLDG about upgrading station signs from painted wood to "blue and white enamel signs similar to the Boston and Maine Railroad." Accordingly the summer of 1909 apparently marks the decision to move to these signs which appeared all over the MEC system. To this day (ca2021) many still adorn old MEC station properties in several Maine towns. On eBay these uncommon and unique signs command high prices. /DL
