Description

In the good ole days the U. S. Post Office operated traveling Post Offices. P. O. employees manned the 'RPO' cars. They picked up and delivered mail at stations all along the RR line, in this case between Bangor and Boston. This particular route was operated by the MEC Bangor to Portland and by the B&M from Portland South. We can thank Mr. or Mrs Willian Beal of Guilford, Me for saving this envelope which found it's way into this collection and lets us recall this little niche of railroad and postal history! /DL
