Description
William L. Prince Bill for Attending James Mitchell, February 19, 1861 details expenses paid by the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor to William L. Prince for “time and expences attending James Mitchell to Insane Hospital.” Mitchell, a Cumberland pauper and long-term resident of the Maine Insane Hospital, ran away from the hospital in 1861. He was found in Freeport and returned to the Maine Insane Hospital in Augusta soon after, where he remained a patient until at least 1873.
