Description
Notes on the Case of Jonathan Barbour, October 1845 details evidence and witnesses involved with the case of Abigail Johnson v. Jonathan Barbour. On January 23, 1845, Abigail Johnson, a married woman and Cumberland pauper, swore under oath that Jonathan Barbour was the father of her unborn illegitimate child due to an encounter in June 1844 while living on the town farm. Although sparse, the notes characterize Barbour’s habits and behavior during his time as superintendent of the Cumberland town farm.
