Description
Record of Persons Liable to Enrollment in the Militia of Maine, Town of Cumberland, 1881-1917 contains the names, ages, and occupations of those residents of Cumberland liable for enrollment in the Maine militia under Chapter 225, Public Laws of 1880, approved March 16, 1880, and later acts and amendments of the Maine Legislature. The volume contains a true transcription of the militia rolls forwarded to the adjutant general by the Cumberland authorities biennially between 1881 and 1909, and for the year 1917. The individuals liable for enrollment are listed alphabetically as their names appear on each of the separate lists, followed by their age, occupation, notes regarding exemptions, and year of the list. The names, occupations, and notes were transcribed just as they appear on the original lists. The original lists are available in digital form under the titles Record of Persons Liable to Enrollment in the Militia of Maine, Town of Cumberland, 1881-1899 and Book #2, Militia Roll, Town of Cumberland, 1903–09, 1917.
