Turnpike Drive winds toward Lincolnville along the edge of Megunticook Lake. At the time this photograph was taken the road was little more than a rough dirt carriage path with just a fence standing between riders and a steep tumble into the lake. Part of Mt. Megunticook is visible in the background as are some of the massive granite boulders that have slid down the mountain.
