Description
Neither the image nor the handwritten note on the back ("no idea on this one") provides the location for the image. The most likely location is Portage, Maine, where Alpheda Rice's father worked (likely during the 1910s).
The pictured mill facility is similar in detail to other images of the Portage mill, notably in its ability to draw logs directly from the waterway for processing.
Established in the early years of the twentieth century, the sawmill in Portage was successively owned by Oscar Iversen, a Mr. Robinson, and then a Mr. Lenfest. The facility eventually became known as the Blanchard mill.
