The Wave was a twice weekly, seasonal newspaper providing business information and local news for the resort areas around the Kennebunk and Kennebunkport beaches. In its first issue, the newspaper was described as “giving all the latest news and hotel arrivals, and descriptions of the various hotels, beaches, and other points of interest in the vicinity, making it not only a vehicle of news but a souvenir and guide book combined.” The Wave was published and edited in Kennebunkport by John Collins Emmons and ran from 1887 to 1908. Issues typically started in early July and ran through the end of August. Some years, issues were published on eye-catching blue paper.

Kennebunk Free Library holds The Wave issues from July 1887 through August 1890 in its historic newspaper collection. KFL is pleased to have made this publication available digitally to the public having been enabled to do so with funding provided through a Maine Humanities Council Bicentennial Grant awarded in 2020, and via partnerships with Osher Map Library for digitization and with the Maine State Library for hosting.
