1917 Women's Suffrage Petitions
During a five-month period immediately following the passage of the law that authorized the 1917 referendum in February 1917, the Maine Woman Suffrage Association gathered signatures from women in Maine’s counties who were in favor of woman suffrage. The association then published and distributed giant lists for each county that listed all the names of the petition signers by town.
