Copied from Massachusetts Archives Maps and Plans #783, "from Archives Vol 118, Page 475 Petition for incorporation of Winthrop."

"Humbly sheweth that we the subscribers inhabitants of said Pondtown on the west side of Kennebeck River within the Plymouth purchase might enjoy the Blessings of the Gospel and good Government amongst our Selves and be inabled to Settle a Minister & School."
